The UK data centres holding our customers’ websites buy their electricity under 100% renewable supply contracts. That’s a market-based arrangement: renewable energy is bought to match what the buildings use. Cooling systems draw power on top of the servers, so the facilities are built to waste as little of it as possible.
Going green goes beyond the servers. Our Manchester office and our team have commitments of their own.

On our servers
SSD storage serves your files quickly, so each page view keeps the server busy for less time.
Nginx caching is on by default for new accounts, so repeat visits skip rebuilding the page.
Newer PHP releases run the same code in less time, so each page costs less energy to build.
Your website sits in our Manchester data centres, close to UK visitors. Measuring its CO2 per page view shows where the remaining savings are.
On your site
Each of these also makes your site faster and more sustainable. Free tools such as the Website Carbon Calculator estimate the CO2 per page view if you want a baseline.
Common questions about green web hosting and how ours works.
Green web hosting cuts the environmental impact of running a website. It uses renewable electricity, in data centres built to waste less of it, and funds carbon reduction projects to cover what is left. A host that only buys carbon offsets is offsetting, not reducing, so ask about the electricity first when you compare hosts.
No. There is no separate eco plan and no green surcharge. Every hosting plan is sold at our standard prices, starting at £1.50/mo on an annual term.
Yes, and our UK team does the work for free. We move your website, databases and email across (up to 25GB per account) and keep any downtime to a minimum. Your domain can stay with its current registrar: point it at our servers and you are switching to green hosting without a transfer. Get in touch to arrange the move.
Yes. The UK data centres holding your website buy their electricity under 100% renewable supply contracts. That is a market-based arrangement: power from renewable energy sources is bought to match what the buildings use, which is how the web hosting industry makes this claim. Our Manchester office is separate, with its own 50KW solar array and battery storage.
No. Green hosting runs on the same hosting platform as every other plan on this site, with SSD storage, Nginx caching and current PHP versions. A request that completes faster also holds the server for less time and draws less power, so faster loading times and lower energy use go together.
No. Unlimited Web Hosting does not hold an environmental certification such as ISO 14001 for environmental management. When a host lists certifications, check whether they belong to the hosting company or to the data centre it rents space in.
Look the host up in the Green Web Foundation directory, a free, independent list of hosting companies that have shown evidence of where their electricity comes from. A host missing from it is not proof either way, since not every green hosting provider has applied. We are listed as Unlimited Web Hosting UK Limited.
Then ask any web hosting company three things: where its electricity comes from, how efficient its data centres are, and what it reduced before it offset anything.
Ecologi funds reforestation and certified carbon reduction projects, and publishes what each member has paid for. Our profile is public, so you can see the trees funded and the carbon avoided for yourself. Our contribution covers our team's carbon footprint, including corporate travel, with a further 10% on top.
Yes. We are a UK-based hosting company, and our servers sit in UK data centres in Manchester, so your data stays in the country and under UK GDPR. Our support team works from our Manchester office, the one with the solar array on the roof.
Carbon neutral means offsetting as much as you emit. Climate-positive means funding more reduction than your own carbon emissions, so the balance tips below zero. For us, that is the extra 10% we add when offsetting our team's emissions and corporate travel. It describes our team, not the hosting.
